The river Thames is pretty much the main reason why London is where it is. 2,000 years ago, the Romans first built a bridge to cross the river upstream of a natural harbour and then founded a flourishing trading centre by the bridge. Londinium was born.
As well as this waterway’s historic and modern importance for transport and trade, it’s been the setting for royal pageants and for the final journey of traitors, a sewer, an ice rink, and a sporting arena. Nowadays, the Thames is the place to come for sight-seeing cruises, the spectacular New Years’ fireworks, and stunning riverside walks.
Join us as we follow this artery through the heart of our city and see some of the most historic and wonderful areas of London. Be enthralled by stories of bridges, wharfs, prisons, theatres, brothels, explorers, battlecruisers, palaces and much, much more.
Make sure you bring your camera as this walk is packed with fabulous photo opportunities.
